Why Micro Ring Attachment?

Using Micro Rings (aka links, beads, tubes, cylinders) to attach hair extension strands to your own hair is a healthy-to-your-hair way to wear extensions. No chemicals like glue requiring heat are used in this process of attachment. Instead, the Micro Rings are applied “cold” using only a pliers-like tool. They go on easy by simply flattening the ring down with the pliers. They come off easy by reshaping the ring to be round again. The extensions slip right off. To get glued-in hair extensions off requires a solvent (acetone) to dissolve the glue enough so that the hair extension can come off your own hair strand. Which method would you rather have touching your hair?

Matching the Hair Extension Curl Pattern to Your Own Hair

During the initial consultation, we always ask you what your hair’s natural curl pattern is. When your hair dries naturally is it curly, wavy, or straight? It’s important to match your natural curl pattern with the hair extensions that go into your hair for several reasons. First you want the hair extensions to look totally natural and blend with your own hair. Second, it gives you many styling options. You can style your hair by not drying it at all for a natural look, straighten it with a flat iron, or curl it using a curling iron or rollers. If you mismatch the curl pattern on the hair extension with your own hair, you’ll be stuck with having to style it every single time you wash your hair so that the entire head of hair behaves the same way.

Highlighting Your Face

No matter if you are a brunette or blonde, one allover hair color makes a round face look heavy.  Adding highlights or lowlights around your face gives you the illusion of a thinner, longer face.  For example, brunettes can add a few caramel-colored strands around the face and for blondes, face framing light blonde colored strands will do the trick.

Interestingly, hair extensions can do this for you without the expense of having your hair lightened (or darkened) using chemicals.  A few human hair extension strands (2 to 4 strands on each side) can be attached around your face to add color dimension.

For about $40 to $80 you can create face framing highlights that will not damage your own hair and are removable.

Whip Up Your Style

The wrong products can sabotage your best efforts. If your goal is to create volume, use light styling products. The last thing you want to do is overdo it and weigh down your hair. Get rid of anything with a waxy or sticky consistency, such as pomade. They are often the main culprit of deflated hair.

You may  think of mousse as a thing of the past, but it’s actually great for creating volume without weighing down your hair. Mousse can also act as a heat barrier from styling tools – items such as blow-dryers, hot rollers, and hot irons.

Condition With Care

The first few inches of your hair is only six months old — so it’s actually very healthy. Since your scalp produces sebum, which is a natural conditioner, you don’t need to add additional conditioners near the roots of your hair. If you’re going to apply conditioner, you should focus on the lower half of your hair. The lower sections would be the older ones, which tend to be drier and possibly more damaged.

Before you buy conditioner, be sure to read the label. You want to avoid conditioners containing dimethicone, a heavy silicone that gives hair shine but can weigh it down and kill volume. Look for cyclomethicone instead. Other ingredients to avoid include lanolin and petrolatum, a these can weigh down your hair and attract dirt.

Wash Away the Weight

Fine hair can get weighed down with product build-up. Many people who wear hair extensions are wearing them because they have thin, fine hair.

You need to shampoo the right way. The key is to clean away any styling build-up without depositing any other residue. It makes sense to take the “less is more” attitude, when it comes to selecting a shampoo. If possible, you want to avoid oils, silicones and petrolatum.

A good option would be volumizing formulas, which work by coating individual hair strands with protein or film formers, to add the illusion of thickness. When in doubt, you should lather with a basic shampoo containing anything with quaternium in the ingredients. This is an ingredient that will stick to the hair, even after rinsing, so it will make your hair appear fuller.

Dandruff? What is it?

Dandruff is embarrassing to have! But what exactly is it?

Dandruff (also known as seborrheic dermatitis) is a condition that can cause your skin to become scaly and flake off. When it affects your scalp, it can be an embarrassing condition where white flakes are visible in your hair and on your clothing. Most often, dandruff is treated with a dandruff shampoo. There are many types, which all use several key ingredients.

Shampoos

All dandruff shampoos are created to be applied to your scalp, then left on for a certain period of time so the medicine can take effect and do its job! You should thoroughly apply the shampoo to your hair, making sure the shampoo reaches your scalp. When this happens, the medicine contained within the shampoo is able to penetrate your scalp to the hair follicles. The way in which the medication  works depends on the active ingredients contained within the shampoo.

  • A zinc pyrithione shampoo (name brands include Head & Shoulders) works to reduce the presence of the fungus pityrosporum on your scalp. While this fungus occurs naturally on all human skin, people with dandruff have more than usual. The shampoo reduces the dandruff by reducing the fungus. Another antifungal ingredient is ketoconazole (brand name Nizoral).
  • Coal tar is another active ingredient (brand names include Neutrogena T/Gel). Coal tar slows the process of skin-cell death, and this prevents the skin cells from flaking off as quickly.
  • Selenium sulfide (brand name Selsun Blue) is a shampoo ingredient with similar results. Unfortunately it can have the side effect of discoloring your hair.
  • Shampoos with salicylic acid (brand name Ionil T) have exfoliating properties to scrub your scalp, getting rid of the flakes. However, this action also can cause dryness.

Effects and Use

After leaving the shampoo on for five minutes, you should thoroughly wash the shampoo off. Many dandruff shampoos tend to dry out your hair, so it’s smart to condition your hair immediately afterward.

Dandruff shampoos can be used on a daily basis when you are first treating signs of dandruff, but you should scale back in their use, once your dandruff is under control. This will help to prevent long-term hair dryness. Dandruff shampoos should reduce most or all symptoms of dandruff, when properly applied. However, if you don’t see results within several weeks, you should consult your doctor, in case a stronger shampoo should be used.
